Description

[MANNOURY d'ECTOT, H. de] Le roman de Violette. Posthumous work of a masked celebrity. Lisbon [i.e. Bruxelles] chez Antonio da Boa-Vista [A. Brancart ou H. Kistemaeckers] 1870 [i.e. 1883] Pet. in-8° : [4]-198 pp. Original brown crushed chagrin, boards with triple gilt fillet, gilt spine ribbed with gilt fleuronné, gilt int. dent., gilt t., 1st cover ill. and witnesses cons. (some light rubbing and small dents). In marbled paper slipcase (wear, inside reinforcement on one joint). One of the two first editions published with the same (wrong) date and address, the other differing a.o. in collation ([4]-195 pp.), both printed on English laid paper with the "O.C.F. She is said to have first proposed it to Gay, who refused. Title in red and black adorned with a satyr practicing self-fellation. The front cover lacks a typographical frame, unlike the ex. described by Dutel and Pia. Ref. Dutel 759. - Pia 1282. - Cp. Perceau 58-1 ([4]-195 pp.). - Not in Nordmann.
