A famous treatise first published in 1704, here in an enlarged edition. The author, Brother François Le Gentil, was a Carthusian monk at the Chartreuse de Vauvert in Paris. In the 18th century, this Carthusian monastery (destroyed during the French Revolution) boasted an exceptional orchard, with a wide variety of fruit made famous by the inventiveness of its monk gardeners.
