Her Jewish husband Maurice Goudeket was arrested and imprisoned in Compiègne, but thanks to Colette's connections, he managed to live in semi-clandestinity from 1942 until the Liberation. The war serves as the backdrop for the novel, but it is above all the reflection and brutal feelings inspired by Maurice's arrest that fuel this text in the form of a diary. Edition of 306 copies, one of the 6 first editions on Johannot watermarked vellum, surfin blanc pur chiffon (marked F). Enriched with an aut. s.
