Picart sculp. 1721", French text (sl. oxidised, few sm. scratches). Portrait of the English philosopher and physician John Locke (1632-1704). Engraved by Bernard Picart (1673-1733) after the famous painting by Gottfried Kneller (1646-1723) in Saint Petersburg (State Hermitage Museum, inv. ГЭ-1345). Impressions of this plate are in numerous collections such as Amsterdam (Rijksmuseum, inv. RP-P-OB-51.033). Ref. Leblanc III.194.568.

[Manuscript] BELIDOR (Bernard Forest de): Cours de Mathématiques appliqué à l'usage de la Guerre, qui contient l'arithmétique, la géomètrie, les sections coniques, la géomètrie pratique, la géodésie, la trigonométrie, les méchaniques, et l'hidrolique, avec un traité de gnomonique. Dictated at the Ecole Royale de la Fere by S. Belidor, 1721. Volume in 4° (19 x 24 cm,) contemporary full marbled calf binding. 450 pages covered in fine, legible handwriting, illustrated with numerous vignettes in the text, some in color, and 17 fold-out plates. Binding very faded: spine missing, corners dulled, spotting, raised quires. Clean inside. In 1721, Belidor was only 23 or 24 years old; he had joined the artillery school at La Fère-en-Tardenois (Aisne) the previous year, and his first work, "Nouveau cours de mathématique à l'usage de l'Artillerie et du Génie", appeared in 1725. He left no personal archives.
