CALLOT, Jacques (after) La grande chasse. 17th c Copperplate, 20,2 x 47,0 cm, signed "Jac. Callot In et Fe" (few sm. light stains, few sm. scratches). Spectacular copperplate after the large deer hunt by Jacques Callot (1592-1635). Minor differences with the original engraving include the small falcon above another bird at upper center touching the tree with his wing. This raises the question whether this high-quality and contemporary plate in the same direction with similar dimensions might also have been produced in Callot's studio. The original plate is not preserved at the Musée lorrain in Nancy so our plate is possibly the only surviving matrix of this composition. Ref. Lieure 353, copy 1.
