Genoels. fec.", address "V. Meulen. ex. Cum privilegio Regis." (trace of former mount outside platemark). Loose under passe-partout. Good impression with wide margins. Etched by the Antwerp landscape painter Abraham Genoels II (1640-1723) and published by the Brussels Adam Frans van der Meulen (1632-1690), who were both active in Paris. 3rd state before later address. TESSEREAU (Abraham). Chronological history of the Grand Chancellery of France. Paris, Pierre Emery, 1706-1710. 2 volumes in-folio, red morocco, richly decorated ribbed spines, gilded fillets framing the covers, gilded inner lace, gilded edges (period binding). The most complete edition of this major work on the history of the Chancellery in France from the early Middle Ages to the beginning of the 18th century. First published in a single volume in 1676, this work was written by Abraham Tessereau, a Protestant born in La Rochelle who served as the King's secretary before going into exile in England and Holland. The second volume, dated 1706, is a first edition. The first volume, whose text was extensively corrected and expanded, was published four years later. A fine copy bound in contemporary morocco. Some foxing, rubbing and minor spotting to bindings.

In-8 marbled basane, smooth ornate spine, red marbled title page, red edges (post. rel., 18th century). Small loss at head cap. The copper-engraved illustrations include a frontispiece, a dedication page, an intermediate title ("Les Pratiques par figures...") and 69 full-page plates. A very fine copy.
