Sepik-style mask, Murik lakes, Papua New Guinea. The face has an austere, serious expression, reinforced by the pout of the small, hollowed-out mouth, and by the eyes magnified by a hollowed-out rim with circular white pupils. The long, plunging nose is inscribed in a curve characteristic of Sepik masks. Light brown patina. The lower surface is decorated with engraved scarification marks, and the rim with a serrated collar. Height : 73.5 Width : 27 cm approx. Provenance: Claude Feraud surrealist collection. Expert: Madame Aurore Krier-Mariani.
