A rare breechloading "liquefied gas" carbine by Paul Giffard

dating: 1875-1890 provenance: Francia, Round barrel with slight right-hand rifling, provided with front sight and adjustable rear sight, marked "S.TE STEPHANOISE D'ARMES - ST. ETIENNE" at the back, with remains of gilding. 6 mm cal at the nozzle. Squared, iron frame, engraved with leaves and racemes; with a balloon-shaped badge at the back and with opening of the small revolving bolt to insert the ball. With bolt knob at the back. Knurled, wooden butt. Iron trigger guard, engraved en suite and featuring a gilded monogram. Bakelite butt plate with a badge depicting a raised balloon and marked "PAUL GIFFARD / INVENTEUR". Gas tank at the front. Made of iron, of cylindrical shape, with various numbering, loading indications and balloon-shaped mark. Interesting.
