A beautiful rapier

dating: about 1620 provenance: Italia settentrionale, Straight, double-edged blade of hexagonal section, the first part with double groove featuring inscriptions, the ricasso outlined and with an 'S'-shaped mark under a circle within an oval. Beautiful iron hilt with remains of gilding (partly refreshed), all elements decorated with shells, the loop guards finely grooved. Wooden handle covered with silver-thread wire binding and Moor's heads, an old restoration at the center.

A sword with eagle's head pommel, 18th century Sturdy, straight single-edged blade (pitted, unmarked) with a double-edged central point. Heavy, gilt non-ferrous metal hilt (rubbed) with eagle's head pommel, oval guard plate and eagle's heads cast as quillons, the blackened grip with double brass wire winding. Slightly damaged, signs of age. Length 85 cm. Condition: II - III
