A flintlock jezail (gun)
dating: 19th Century provenance: Afganistan, Interesting barrel (older production?) with hexagonal bore and rifling, the outer section is octagonal; provided with a very raised and round rear sight at the breech (later fixed to the barrel), with a slightly bell-mouthed nozzle and provided with base for the foresight (not present), the back with some floral carvings and longitudinal ribbing. 13.2 cal mm. at the nozzle. Lock based on the British military type, working but worn mechanism. Plate with remains of engravings and possibly of date '1805'. Long wooden stock decorated with mother-of-pearl inlays and copper-coloured metal bands. Copper-coloured metal clips, engraved iron trigger guard.
