Three Breton bronze axes type Dahouet, late Bronze Age to early Iron Age of western Europe, 10th - 5th century B.C. Cast socket axes with a square cross-section at the opening. The cross-section becomes increasingly rectangular towards the minimally curved cutting edge. The sides along the axe blade are slightly curved, the upper and lower sides curve out slightly towards the cutting edge with a cast ridge in the middle and a semicircular eyelet on one side. The square muzzle is surrounded by a strong bulge with a prominent ridge as a fold. A thin rib all around between the muzzle and the eyelet. Length 13.4 - 13.7 cm. Three excellently preserved examples of the Dahouet type with beautiful green patina and minor incrustations. Provenance: Private collection kept in Germany, acquired in the 90s. Condition: I -

A stone axe, a flanged axe and a socketed axe, Copper Age and Bronze Age, mid-3rd millennium to 8th century B.C., plus a terra sigillata base with stamp 1) Younger convex axe made of rock, Corded Ware period, mid-3rd millennium B.C. Broken and glued in the middle. Length 16.5 cm. 2) Parallel-sided rimmed axe of the North German type with a flaring, curved cutting edge with a broad bevel. Middle Bronze Age. 16th - 15th century BC. Intact. Length 12.2 cm. 3) Late Bronze Age socket axe with a bead at the muzzle, two thin ribs parallel to the bead on the obverse side and a ring loop on the side of the bead and ribs. The blade trapezoidal, clearly flaring outwards with a slightly curved edge. Dark patina. A small chip at one corner of the edge. Length 11.2 cm. 4) Comes with the base of a Roman terra sigillata vessel with maker's stamp. Provenance: From an old Belgian private collection, acquired in the Belgian art trade in the 1980s.
