An excellent kandshar

dating: 18th Century provenance: Persia, Curved, double-edged blade with rib at the center, made of very fine Wootz damask, with slightly raised base. Double-'T'-shaped, walrus tusk handle majestically carved in bas-relief with well-shaped figures. Featuring a depiction of a gentleman and a lady in 'Western'-looking dress, with three winged angels crouched at their feet, on a background featuring a thick pattern of foliage and flowers in relief. Above and below are panels featuring nasta'liq type inscriptions with beaded frames. Smooth back engraved with a man in traditional vest among floral decorations, at his feet is a hound chasing a hare. An old restoration and very small missing parts. Leather-covered wooden scabbard with decorations in relief.
