Wilhelm II dating: 1890 provenance: Berlino, Big, original photograph depicting Kaiser in uniform with orders. Signed in ink "Wilhelm J. R. Berlin 14/XI 1890" and with the photographers' stamp "Reichard & Lindner, Berlin 1888" beside; the rear part with a large mark of the court photographers with address. A printed picture below reads "Dem Kommandeur der Königlich Preußischen Hauptkadettenanstalt zu Lichterfelde". In a beautiful, richly-pierced, gilded-metal frame, surmounted by the royal monogram "W" under crown with enamels; the two upper corners with partially-enameled German eagles. The frame on the back with the mark "C. H. Preetz, Berlin".

Photographs. Acrobats. Set of 12 original photographs (circa 1890) on albumen paper mounted on heavy paper, medium format 16 x 12 cm (image) on 18.5 x 14 cm (paper) all matted. A very curious and beautiful series of photographs featuring acrobats performing in a small town and invited to a private performance on the terrace of the home of local notables (probably in the Montbéliard (Doubs) or Belfort territories). The first photograph shows the troupe posing for the camera, with a big top in the background. In the other photographs, two members of the troupe and their dog are on the terrace, posing in the company of their hosts, Raoul de Clermont and probably his sister, Marguerite, the shots having perhaps been taken by his brother, Philibert, who was an amateur photographer. As the de Clermont family owned several properties, it's difficult to pinpoint exactly where they were taken. A mattress was laid out on the terrace, and a carpet rolled out. The two acrobats perform contortionist acts, including an extraordinary backflip. Provenance: Raoul de Clermont's family album.
