A Garibaldian cap
dating: early 20th Century provenance: Regno d'Italia, Made of red cloth with dark-green bands, embroidered with number 5, black visor with black leather chin-strap, smooth buttons, with black Moroccan leather sweat-band inside, brown cloth cap. Some minor moth holes. Caps of this type were commissioned by Garibaldian veterans to replace their original ones, which had been damaged or lost during the wars of independence, allowing them to wear these hats at official events.
