A Colt Third Model Dragoon Revolver

dating: 1858 provenance: USA, Cylindrical, 7-1/2", 44 cal. barrel (some scaling and pitting inside, clearly visible rifling) with octagonal base, silver-coloured semi-circular foresight, the back mark is missing. With rear sight featuring adjustable sight leaf on the back, near the breech. The cartridge rammer with partial four-digit serial number matching the barrel. The barrel wedge is not numbered. Smooth, six-shot cylinder with rectangular notches, without marks or decorations (substituted? two slightly deformed chambers). Working mechanism. Frame marked "COLTS PATENT" and "U.S." with serial number "16xxx" matching the barrel; central pin of the cylinder without numbers. Brass lower band and rounded trigger guard with serial number matching the frame, also with the mark "L". Iron back band with matching serial number under the grip. Provided with clutches on the sides and slot under the grip to mount a removable butt (not present). Various areas of pitting. Smooth walnut grip without stamps.
