Description

Netsuke. Blind man. Wood, painted in color. 1st half 19th century. Standing leaning on his staff and looking to the side, the robe leaves part of the shoulder exposed. The hakama are painted light green, the insides of the sleeves red, the incarnate white. It is unusual that this is not a blind man with glaucoma, but a man who is blind in both eyes, has closed them and whose narrow-lippedness is an expression of his fate. H 6 cm Provenance Private collection, Southern Europe
