Netsuke of the youthful Gama Sennin. Ivory. Kyoto. Late 18th century. Standing on one leg, holding the leg of the toad squatting on his shoulder with his right hand, with his left hand the sennin grasps the belt strap. The robe is engraved with flowers and clouds, the borders of the robe show a zigzag pattern. The large eyes of the toad are made of polished black-brown horn. Reworked shoe sole of the supporting leg. H 8 cm Provenance Private collection, Rhineland-Palatinate, acquired in the 1970s/80s in the German art trade This object was made using materials for which a CITES permit is required for export to countries outside the EU. We would like to point out that a permit is not usually issued.
