Shibayama-inro. Ivory, mother-of-pearl, tortoiseshell and silver. Late 19th century. 3-piece, concealed cord guide. A landscape with waterfall and stream in relief on both sides, herons, geese, golden pheasant, dove, kingfisher and many other birds among chrysanthemums, flowering cherry trees, wisteria and numerous flowering shrubs in mother-of-pearl in relief. Silver mounts with floral patterns in silver filigree and translucent enamel at the four corners. One bird inlay missing. ojime: Flat silver bead, the seven autumn grasses in relief on the broadsides. Manju, 2-piece, made of ivory, decorated in shibayama inlays with a karako with fan, butterfly and chrysanthemums. Signed on mother-of-pearl plate: Shibayama Yasumune. Signature plate damaged and incorrectly replaced. H 10.9 cm; W 7.5 cm Provenance Private collection, Baden-Württemberg, acquired at Lempertz, Cologne, 9/10.12.2011, lot 720 This object was made using materials for which a CITES permit is required for export to countries outside the EU.
