Inro. Late 18th/early 19th century. Signed: Kajikawa saku and red pot seal: egg 5-piece, offset cord guide. Black lacquer on all sides. In hiramakie, brown lacquer, a little red lacquer, gold foil, kirikane and togidashi on one side the Chinese poet Toba in frontal view, sitting on a mule, on the other side a bamboo grove. Part of the gold foil is missing. ojime: Chinese ivory bead, decorated in engraving with a warrior and a line of poetry. Netsuke: Very flat, grazing horse. Ivory. Silver peg for the cord holder. H 7.3 cm; W 6.7 cm Provenance Private collection, Baden-Württemberg, acquired at Lempertz, Cologne, 9/10.12.2011, lot 718 This object was made using materials for which a CITES permit is required for export to countries outside the EU. We would like to point out that a permit is not usually issued.
