Description
Chawan. Ko-Karatsu. Hizen province. Edo period, 18th century. Almost spherical form on a wide foot ring, spirally turned on the inside (kaijiri kodai (spiral shell foot)). Dark body, coarse encrusted surface on the outside of the upper half, covered with an ash glaze with whitish spots and metallic particles, matt beige and white glaze on the inside. Old wooden box with hanging label, inscribed: Ko-Karatsu chawan. Linen cloth. H 8.4 cm; D 11 cm Provenance Private collection, Düsseldorf
