Chawan. Aka-Raku. Kyoto. Edo period, 19th century. Stamped in the foot: Raku Hemispherical form with an almost vertically rising wall on a small foot ring. Light body covered with a salmon-colored, glossy glaze over a white engobe, leaving the foot free. Wooden box. Silk bag (shifuku). The Raku seal is one of the official seals of Tan'nyu (1795-1854), the second son of Ryo'nyu, who succeeded his father as the 10th head of the Raku family after the early death of his elder brother in 1811.
