Artist of the late 18th century. Group of surimono Katsukawa Shuntei (1770-1820). Shikishiban surimono. Foreigner and portrait of Ichikawa Danjūrō in Shibaraku. Ref: Katsu Kyūko Shuntei ga. Kao. b) Eishōsai Choki (active ca. 1780-1810). Small surimono. Young women with monkeys. Inscribed: Chōki ga. c) Surimono by Hosoda Eishi, Rekisentei Eiri and an unknown artist. (6) Good impressions, colors mostly good, two sheets rubbed and soiled, some with worm damage, all mounted with adhesive tape at corners in passepartout. Provenance Collection Dr. Kurt Meissner

Attributed to Willem van Bemmel, Dutch 1630-1708- Italianate landscape with ruins and travellers; oil on canvas, bears later inscription 'Wilhelm Bemmel' to the reverse of the frame, 46.5 x 64.5 cm. Provenance: Anon. sale, Sotheby's, London, 28th October 1987, lot 64. Note: Van Bemmel studied in Utrecht under Herman Saftleven (1069-1685), before travelling to Italy, where he became known as a member of the 'Bentvueghels', a group of Flemish and Dutch artists working in Rome in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The significance of Van Bemmel's time in Rome is evident in the romantic Italianate landscapes which the artist subsequently produced, and which define the artist's output, as in his landscape in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna [GG_5748].
