Description
Thangka of the Vajra-Heruka in yab-yum. Tibet. 19th cent. Appearing in a flame mandorla, the wrathful, winged tutelary god with his wisdom partner Vajra-Krodesvari. In his primary hands Heruka holds vajra and ghanta, in the secondary hands khatvanga, damaru, antra (entrails) and kapala. To the side of the yidam, eight wrathful Keurima and eight animal-headed Phramenma deities manifest. Vajradhara at the top of the picture, Tsongkhapa on his right and Manjushri on his left. Mantra and an inscription on the reverse. Traces of age. 68.3 x 44.3 cm Provenance Private collection, Northern Germany
