Plaque with Lama Gampopa Sonam Rinchen. Bronze in repoussé, fire-gilt. Tibet. Early 19th century. Tall figure wrapped in fine robes on a large cushion seat with a bundle next to him. His hands placed on his lap in dhyanamudra. He wears a fan-like hat popularized by this lama in the 12th century and is worn almost exclusively by disciples and successors of Gampopa. Remains of the red pigment. Gampopa Sonam Rinchen (1079 - 1153) was a disciple of Milarepa and became a revered teacher and master himself.
