Description
Rare figure of the Bodhisattva Maitreya. Bronze, fire-gilt. Tibet. 17th century. Seated on a double lotus throne in dhyanasana, his right hand in vitarkamudra, his left hand in avakasamudra on his lap. Two lotus plants rise from his hands, along his arms, their flowers supporting mahabodhi stupa and kundika. The bodhisattva wears a high crown concealing an elaborate chignon, numerous body ornaments and a long dhoti adorned with lotus blossoms. Details decorated with small turquoises. Base plate.
