CHARLES BERTIN GASTON CHAPUIS DE TOURVILLE (1740-1809), General of the French Revolution. Congé de réforme on the letterhead of the Republican Army, National Infantry, 4th Battalion of National Federates, dated 30 Nivôse de l'An II (January 19, 1794), approved and signed Chapu, alias the General de brigade commandant en chef at Cambrai, Charles Bertin Gaston Chapuis de Tourville. This is a reform leave for citizen Nicolas La Granche of Company no. 6, a volunteer in the 4th Battalion of the Federated, then aged 19. Bearing two stamps: that of the Commissaire de la République and that of the Bataillon de Volontaires Fédérés Nationaux. Also bears the signatures of Company Captain Coutaut, the War Commissioner and members of the Bataillon's Board of Directors, including Sub-Lieutenant Lemaire, the National Commissioner for Reform for the Armée du Nord. On the back, a copy of the medical certificate issued by the battalion's surgeon major prior to discharge, describing a hand and wrist problem. At the bottom, a dozen other signatures from various administrators. Good condition, under glass. H. 24.5 x W. 36 cm.
