Asterix, plate no. 7 in Indian ink from the episode "Asterix in Corsica" (sc. René Goscinny) pre-published in the January 25, 1973 issue of Pilote and published in album form by Editions Dargaud the same year. In this twentieth episode in the adventures of Asterix and Obelix, the story gets off to a cheerful start in the village where the irreducible Gauls have invited their friends from previous stories: Petisuix (Asterix and the Helvetii), Soupalognon y Crouton and Pépé (Asterix in Hispania), Plaintcontrix (Asterix the Gladiator), Jolitorax and Zebigbos (Asterix and the Bretons), Beaufix, Labeldecadix and Changéledix (Le Tour de Gaule) and Alambix (Le Bouclier Arverne). The reason for this joyous reunion is that it's the anniversary of the Battle of Gergovie, when Julius Caesar's conquest of Gaul was halted by the Gallic leader Vercingetorix. So, every year, the whole village, led by Abraracourcix, goes off to teach a "lesson" in a nearby Roman camp, after drinking a little magic potion from the druid Panoramix, of course! This time, the Gauls have set their sights on the Babaorum camp, where a surprise awaits them: after having done their business with the unfortunate legionnaires, Asterix and his friends discover a Corsican prisoner by the name of Ocatarinetabellatchitchix (a reference to the song by Tino Rossi, another legendary Corsican). He tells them that he is the chief of a Corsican village that is also resisting the Roman invaders. Interested in seeing how the Corsicans deal with the Romans, Asterix and Obelix accompany their new friend to the Isle of Beauty. In addition to the fact that Asterix in Corsica was pencilled and inked by Albert Uderzo alone (as were The Soothsayer and Caesar's Gift for the 1970s period), it's worth noting that this plate has the privilege of bringing together all the main characters in the series, as well as the friends they met on their earlier travels. This makes it a reference work for any discerning collector. The dedication to a very good friend of the artist is the icing on the cake! Signed and dedicated (creases in the upper corners).
