Description

JAPAN - 20th century Suzuribako representing jurojin with crane and frog, signed Tsunemasa and Kakihan. Rectangular in shape, with a silver lacquer dusted base, lid decorated with a central silver roundel surrounded by kirigane clouds. The central roundel, lacquered in iro-e takamaki-e on a gyobu nashiji background, depicts Jurojin seated under a pine tree, with a red-crested crane to his right and a deer to his left. The deity, wearing a red, teal and silver robe decorated with auspicious symbols and tied at the waist with a gold belt, holds his fan in his right hand and his walking stick in his left. The inside of the robe is decorated with a gold-encrusted full moon, surrounded by clouds, above an ocean. Dimensions: 4.6 x 22.9 x 25.4 cm With a fitted tomobako box, inscribed Heian Tsunemasa saku [made by Heian Tsunemasa] and accompanied by a label describing the suzuribako.
