VIETNAM, late 19th century APPARAT SWORD, Kiêm, double-edged blade, wooden scabbard decorated with floral scrolls inlaid with mother-of-pearl, enhanced at the ends and in the center by a silver embossed sheath decorated with flowers, foliage and auspicious motifs; the hilt and pommel, in the shape of a ruyi head, the former adorned on both sides with two facing dragons, the latter with foliage decoration; the handle in finely carved ivory with stylized auspicious characters among floral scrolls. Attached to the scabbard is a long strap carefully tied in various knots evoking endless knots. (Minor deformations and accidents). Total length: 95 cm - Blade length: 68.5 cm Gross weight of the sword without scabbard: 783 g. Provenance: This sword is said to have been given by Emperor Bảo Đại (1913-1997) to the grandfather of the deceased husband of the current owner. He was Resident for France in Vietnam and knew Bảo Đại well, whom he later saw again when the latter arrived in France. The CIC will be given to the purchaser.
