Katsukawa Shunzen (Shunko II) (1762-1830)
JAPAN - Print - Katsukawa Shunzen (Shunko II) (1762-1830) "Seaweed gatherers" circa 1810. Embossed woodcut printed in colors on Japan paper. Oban yoko-e format. condition: Slightly creased in places. Note: Initially a pupil of Shunshô, he was later influenced by the style of Kiyonaga, then Utamaro. He specialized in prints of actors, then women, with a subtle sense of color. At the end of his life, he gave up printmaking to devote himself to writing.
