COLLABORATION. FRENCH LEGION OF FIGHTERS. PHILATELIA. Set of 4 stamped envelopes, one stamped envelope sent by Oberleutnant Abel Blanchard is enclosed. 5 pieces. BLANCHARD Abel (1918-1943). He joined the LVF on September 13, 1941 in Versailles, and was posted to the 638th Infantry Regiment in Poland in October 1941. His contract was terminated on April 10, 1942, and he asked to sign a new one, but the Germans refused on the grounds of "physical unfitness and insufficient military knowledge". On February 28, 1943, he was arrested by the Gestapo and charged with "illegal possession of weapons and theft of documents". He was sentenced to death and shot on September 28, 1943 at Mont-Valérien.
