Victor Horta (1861-1947) Pair of chairs, exotic wood, c. 1902. Not found in Irpa's photographic archives. These chairs feature highly recognizable, recurring details that are part of Victor Horta's ornamental vocabulary. Like the legs ending in "clogs". Both concave and convex ornamentation are part of the master's grammar. Condition report: as a result of earlier restorations, some details have been softened, such as the mini-angles (in the cornices at the top of the backrest), which were originally straight and have become rounder with time and polishing. As a result, the edges are less sharp. On request, the auction house can recommend an excellent cabinetmaker to restore the chairs to their former glory. They deserve it - they're museum-quality. The art nouveau fabric is not original.

Zel-Neering or Darink-Delving, as it used to be practiced in Zeeland. "This depiction, made after an old painting in 't Gasthuis in Zierikzee, shows, in a View of the Island of Schouwen and the City of Zierikzee, the way, in which the darink was dug out of the ground, laid to dry in heaps, and then burned to ash: which was then taken to the Salt Kiln, and, mixed with seawater, was made into salt. By Cornelis Pronk (1691 - 1759) after a painting by Jan Caspar Philips (1690 - 1775). Hand-colored copper engraving ca.1745. 290 x170 mm.
