Henri CLAY, Tunisia. Glazed ceramic ewer with metallic sheen on pedestal and spindle-shaped body. Height: 29 cm. Missing base. Note: Henri Clay was a French ceramist active in Tunisia in the 20th century. In 1925, he took part in the Exposition Internationale des Arts décoratifs et industriels modernes de Paris at the Tunisian Pavilion, where he exhibited a panel with metallic reflections, as well as pottery. In 1929, he exhibited at the Salon Tunisien. Under number 415, the catalog listed "various flamed and metallic-reflected pottery". The Tunis-based newspaper "Les Annales coloniales" quoted him in an article dated December 7, 1926, dedicated to the industrial effort in Tunisia, in the following terms: "We should also mention the first trials of one of our compatriots based in Hammam-Lif, who is trying to steer Tunisian ceramics in a new direction by obtaining tones with metallic reflections.
