The lid and hinged cover of the keyboard a applied with Scottish hardstones against an engraved background with thistles and Celtic motifs. The lid of the piano with hinged opening to reveal a velvet lined interior and the keyboard cover with interior fittings for rings. The hinge of the piano cover is detached, the lid does not close completely and there is a dent to the front left hand side at the base of the piano.
