Hinged at upper edge. Under passe-partout. Fourth state of this splendid carte-à-figures, based on Mercator's projection, first published in 1606. This highly decorative world map is surrounded by 22 allegorical border decorations: at the top, representations of the sun, moon and the 5 known planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn), at the sides the 4 elements (left) and 4 seasons (right), at the bottom, the 7 world wonders. The 2 poles on right and left handside of the map. Engraved by Josua van den Ende. From the 1647 "Tonneel des Aerdryck [...]" (Dutch text on verso: "Des geheelen aerdtrycks beschryving", as in Koeman, while Van der Krogt mentions (erroneously?)
