Het nieuwe Scheppings Spel (also known as Jeu de la Métamorphose). Ca. 1820. Comprising 3 series of contemp. handcol. engr. cards: 11 pictures of heads, 12 pictures of bodies, 8 pictures of legs and 8 blank cards, all cards approx. 2.5 x 5 cm. Incomplete (each set should have 30 pieces), lacking card w. rules and orig. box. Still a decent set of cards from an extremely rare game. The purpose of the game was to combine the head, body and legs of various figures and animals to make new creatures.

Jeu de massacre (France, circa 1900) Jeu de massacre (France, circa 1900). Cut-out wooden silhouette (48 cm high, 18.5 at its widest, 1.3 thick), painted. At its base, at the back, a system allows it to pivot back and forth on a metal rod, itself fixed to a small wooden beam. Part of a fairground killing game. Numerous characters of the same kind, but all different, were lined up on a wooden beam. Players had to knock them down by throwing balls. The polychromy has faded a little, and the years have also passed, but the figure of the village warden with his drum is clearly recognizable. A testament to the fairground pleasures of the early part of the previous century, when the good people could take their mood out on the representatives of those who symbolized authority: magistrates, gendarmes, policemen, politicians and other distant oppressors. Like the aforementioned good people, these wormholes took a slice when the opportunity arose.

Amsterdam, Nicolas Visscher, [circa 1700]. 3 parts in one volume in-4, speckled calf, ornate ribbed spine, red morocco title-piece, fillets framing the boards, marbled edges (period binding). With a title-frontispiece, a vignette on the title, 3 interspersed titles and 277 mid-page engraved figures illustrating the Bible, with captions in Latin, French, English, German and Dutch. A good copy. Corners rubbed, first spine partly split.
