After 3 years studying Dress Design at Birmingham Art School she went to work for the RSC, spending 6 months in Stratford-upon-Avon and 6 months at The Old Vic in London. The next 6 years were spent cutting costumes in the production wardrobe of H.M.Tennant, the leading theatre management who were based in The Globe Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue. After this, Ba went free-lance, and continued to make costumes until well into her 80s - a career of more than 50 years. She worked for many companies, including:- The Actors Theatre Company, Cambridge Theatre Company, Prospect at the Old Vic, Oxford Playhouse, The Royal Opera, The Royal Ballet, English National Opera & Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, National Theatre, Welsh National Opera, RSC, Aix-en-Provence Festival, Dutch National Ballet, Chicago Opera, Vienna State Opera, Israel Opera, Drottningholm in Sweden and at the Bouffe du Nord, Paris. She also worked with Akram Kahn and was part of the creative team in Peter Brook’s widely acclaimed adaptation of The Mahabharata. Among her many film credits are;- Batman & Robin, Last Emperor, Excaliber, Dune(1983), Restoration, Man in the Iron Mask, Troy and Nuns on the Run. All the designs in this auction are by designers Ba had worked for, many of whom were close friends.
