Félicien ROPS (1833-1898). L.A.S. "Fély" to "Mes chères petites amies", at the bottom of his engraving "La Clef des Champs"; 1page folio (32.5 x 23.5 cm). State proof of the engraving (14.5 x 10 cm), on which Rops has inscribed in graphite the title: "La Clef des Champs". Below the engraving, he has pasted a newspaper clipping, and written in ink: "Mes chères petites amies, Je vous envoie une petite histoire de ce matin, & l'accident arrivé à ce bon jeune homme m'arriverait sans aucun doute, si pressant tous ces malheurs, je n'avais eu l'esprit de me faire Turc & Mahométan. Which allows me to love all four of you. I send you "petits fours" as I covered them with kisses, under your lips"... The newspaper clipping relates the suicide of a young man who left a letter explaining his act because he couldn't choose between three girls he loved with equal tenderness...
