Description
Sculpture in the round featuring a head of Eros as Hercules or Omphale. The head, with its delicate features, is covered with a lion skin. The animal's fangs, with open mouth, fall on the temples, protected by thick curls. The small, lippish mouth, the weathered hair and the slightly chubby oval of the face give it an almost melancholy expression. The curls of the hair, largely treated with a drill bit, are highlighted by the sculptor's work. The body's fur is treated in broad wisps, also exacerbated by deep drilling. Marble, fractures and spalls. Antique, Renaissance or later. H. 26.5 cm Provenance : Jean Roudillon Collection
