Royal blue blown glass amphora. The ovoid body is decorated in the center with a frieze of volutes, framed by a gadroon motif on the shoulder and lower part. Two small handles applied to the shoulder and folded under the mouthpiece. Small cylindrical foot. Royal blue glass, one handle broken and glued. Eastern Mediterranean, Lebanon, probably Sidon. H. 7 cm Note: Sidon is located in present-day Lebanon and has been a center of glassmaking for several millennia, probably the birthplace of glass. In Roman times, Sidon continued to be active in the production of glass vases. These small blown-molded vessels, which can have various colors or decoration, have been found in the region and can be dated to the 1st century. Provenance : Jean Roudillon Collection
