Contemporary brown calf, six-ribbed spine, title page. Binding entirely rubbed, corners dulled, one jaw split over a few cm. The [4] leaves include the printed title, the author's portrait engraved by Nolin after P. Simon, the engraved dedication and an engraved title. The first part is illustrated with 59 plates hors texte, including 2 fold-outs (1 on the illuminations in the Louvre for the birth of the Duke of Burgundy in 1682 and 1 with epigraphs, serving as a dedication for the entire work and depicting the Place des Victoires) and 3 plates of mottoes, as well as 13 illustrations in the text and a few bandeaux and culs-de-lampe; the second, 34 plates hors texte of medals.
