YEARS 1900 NEO-EGYPTIAN HORUS PENDANT Representing a stylized falcon, the body is set with an engraved cabochon turquoise, with two brilliant-cut diamonds (old cut) for the claws. The back is chased with a feather design. Set in 18K yellow gold. French work. Gross weight: 30 g (later choker) Dimensions: 4.5 x 3.6 cm. UNDER THE PROTECTIVE EYE OF THE GOD OF AZURE, REFINED EGYPTOMANIA This falcon has one eye representing the sun, the other the moon. He is undoubtedly the God of protection. The jewel itself is part of a cycle of inspiration drawn from ancient Egypt, commonly known as egyptomania. This craze began with Bonaparte's expeditions at the end of the 18th century, through the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 to the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb in 1922. The great jewellers of the time illustrated it with a great diversity and opposition of colors. A turquoise, diamonds and 18K yellow gold pendant, circa 1900. French assay mark. Gross weight : 30 gr.
