YEARS 1860 RARE "NEGRESSE HABILLÉE" CAMEO BROOCH The oval, domed cameo depicts a "negresse" head on a three-layer sardonyx. The head is dressed with a hair ornament, earring and necklace set with small rose-cut diamonds. Surrounded by fine pearls. Set in 18K yellow gold and vermeil. Gross weight: 32.24 g (three small diamonds missing, two tiny hairs on the white edge). Dimensions: 5.4 cm x 4.3 cm. THE ART OF THE DOMED CAMEO The primary characteristic of this cameo is that it is domed, giving it great strength with the portrait's modeling. The effect is enhanced by the application of diamond-embellished "jewels" worn by the figure. Traditionally, portraits on this type of cameo are much more rigid.
