Al-Jazuli (died 1465). Dalâ'il al-Khayrât. North Africa, 19th century. Arabic religious manuscript on paper. 188 folios, text of 8 lines per page, in Maghribi script in black, red and blue-green ink within a double red frame. No first title page. The text is decorated with two stylized miniatures of Mecca and Medina, and three polychrome illuminated cartouches. Bound in garnet-red leather with embossed cruciform composition (Condition: binding mounted upside down, wear, wetness, stains, small tears). Size: 12 x 11.5 cm LS The Dala'il al-Khayrat (Signs of Blessings) is the most famous collection of prayers about the Prophet Muhammad, composed by the Moroccan Sufi scholar Muhammad ibn Sulaiman al-Jazuli (d. 1465). It was a highly prized work in the Ottoman Empire and the Maghreb. It is divided into sections for daily prayer.
