CHINA, late Qing dynasty Horizontal calligraphy, in ink on silk, consisting of four large characters "Qian hua xu yan" or "prolong the flame of a thousand flowers" (an expression symbolizing the continuation of life in all its beauty and diversity), followed by two red seals, probably originally the header (yinshou) preceding a painting on a horizontal scroll, from which it has been cut.
