Fourth partly original edition and first complete edition of Erreurs amoureuses. This collection of sonnets and poems addressed to a woman nicknamed l'Ombre de ma vie had a strong influence on the poets of his time, particularly Ronsard. First published in 1549 in Lyon by Jean de Tournes, the Erreurs amoureuses were followed by a sequel in 1551 under the title Continuation des erreurs amoureuses. Two new editions followed in 1553 and 1554, culminating in the 1555 edition, ours, the first complete one, augmented by a third part and a fourth part. third part and a Livre de vers liriques. The title is adorned with a fine arabesque frame as a cul-de-lampe (Cartier, 93), and the verso of the title is illustrated with a portrait of the dedicatee surrounded by the motto De ma vie l'ombre. An early facsimile of one of Thyard's writings is bound in fine. A fine copy in 18th-century olive-green morocco. Spine faded, copy a little short of margins at head, old handwritten annotations on endpaper. Provenance: Adolphe Audenet (torn bookplate) and Prosper Blanchemain(bookplate).
