(4 f.)-72f. / III. 100 f. / a6, A-E12, F4, G8, H-M12, N8, O4, P-Y12 / 83 x 149 mm. Second edition of the theatrical and poetic works of Jean Prevost (1580?-1622), a lawyer by profession and poet in his spare time, who met the singular fate of being imprisoned for debts following a lawsuit brought against him by his future in-laws, who disputed that he had been designated universal legatee by his fiancée. He owed his freedom to the help of his poet friends Abel and Scévole de Sainte-Marthe. This edition of the works consists of three parts: the Tragédies et autres œuvres poëtiques, Les Secondes œuvres poetiques et tragiques and Apotheose du tres-chrestien Roy de France et de Navarre Henry IIII. These three parts have separate titles dated 1618 for the first and 1613 for the other two. Vellum soiled, creased, one inner hinge weak, paper browned, small wormholes.
