Last edition published during the author's lifetime, and one of the most complete. It is and justly esteemed (Tchemerzine). The Œuvres de Philippe Desportes were rightly published in numerous editions, from the first in 1573 to the most complete in 1600. Tchemerzine lists over twenty editions, showing just how popular the author was in his day. It is quite rare to find copies in period bindings with armorial decoration. Our copy is bound with the arms of Dominique Séguier, brother of the Chancellor, bishop of Auxerre and then of Meaux, and Commander of the Order of the Holy Spirit (1591-1657). Old restorations to binding.
