A Christian Dior haute couture black wool day suit, probably Autumn-Winter 1949

labelled and numbered 11497, 11498, inscribed 30278, the fitted, tailored single-breasted jacket with small concave buttons, nipped waist, curved padded hips, rear martingale belt with small central bow, the cuffs with diagonal fold detail with matching pencil skirt, bust 92cm, 36in, waist 64cm, 25in (2) Provenance: Purchased from Christies, 29 November, 2012, lot 45. From the wardrobe of Mrs Nadya Woodward wife of Orator Frank Woodward III. Born i Pleven, Bulgariashe attended the Sorbonne University in Paris to study international law. It was there that she met Dr Norberto Angones who was a diplomat representing Cuba in the Cuban Embassy in Paris. They fell in love and married. She was famously beautiful, intelligent and elegant. After Dr Angones died in 1962 she eventually married Orator Frank Woodward III, an heir to the Jell-O fortune.
