Description

MONTIERES Manufacture de, Enameled ceramic ball vase with annular neck, featuring a frieze design with incised geometric motifs in gray-pink and red tones on an anthracite background. Signed on the back - Stamped on the reverse. Height 19 cm - Width 17 cm Note : "In 1915, two partners set up a small earthenware factory in Montières, a district of Amiens. But once mobilized on the front, they sold their business to the Amiens industrialist Désiré Borck in 1917. The latter entrusted artistic direction of the ceramics workshop to Jean Barol, an experienced potter from Cannes and former student of Clément Massier, one of the most famous ceramists of the late 19th century. In 1927, the SARL de la Céramique d'art de Montières was created. Art Nouveau became the predominant style. The crisis of 1929 weakened the site, which kept just 3 employees before dying out in 1936, undermined by foreign competition."
